Own it, to achieve it!
Once you have thought about what you want, where you want to be, and believe in yourself that you can do it, you then have to take decisive action. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step”.
That is all you need to do. Take the first step and use the tools I have provided you in my blogs in order to take decisive action towards your success. Example – set your vision using the vision Road-Map (vRM), and plan your goals using the Goal Setting Blueprint (GSB), all you need to do is to take that first step. Do the first thing you said you would do on the GSB. Go on, make a move, and you will be surprised at the outcome and how good you will feel once you have made it up that first step. Owning it is about making that move with confidence and with a feeling of already being there.
“Owning it is about taking Action!”
Think of a car driving in the night. With headlights only shining a few hundred feet ahead of you, you can make it all the way from London to Manchester driving in the dark because you know the next few hundred yards will unfold as you drive along, and it will keep unfolding until you reach your final destination.
When you take that first step, all you need to do is trust and believe that you will make it up the next step, and the next step, and the next step, until you accomplish your goal. If you “Own It”, and keep taking one step after the other, your life will keep unfolding. Eventually, you will get you to the destination of whatever it is you truly want, because you thought it, you believed it, and owned it. Make a decision to own it by taking decisive action to change your life, NOW. You can only change your life by taking action and deciding on what you will no longer tolerate.
“The secret to change is taking action.”
You don’t have to start big. I once heard a speaker say, “Success by the yard is hard, but success by the inch is a cinch”. Change little, but change often. Success is all about gradual continuous progress.
Don’t be disenchanted or discouraged if you try to step up the first step and you slip. There is no one who has attained success without failure. Success & failure goes hand in hand. It’s part of the circle of life, and you just need to be aware of that and accept it. But your conviction, power of purpose, and determination should be strong enough to get you back on your feet so you can try again. I learnt a very useful nursery rhyme at school about a little train that was not as modern and strong as the other trains and was given a load of cargo to pull from one station to the other. He kept chugging along slowly at first until he built momentum.
At some points on the journey, the tracks would go up a few hills, and he rolled back down the hill on the tracks. When this happened, he just kept chugging along slowly, but surely until he eventually made it over the hill.
Never give up -”If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try, and try again”. Never stop pushing.
Many of you will want to throw in the towel when the going gets tough, but just think about it, the breakthrough you are dreaming of might just be over the hill, or it might just be the next step you take. Never surrender! Never give in!
The secret to “Own it” are the little wins. As I have always said throughout my blogs, bite size chunks at a time or as I am sure you have always heard, “one step at a time”. Do not hesitate; take that first step towards making that vision and that dream a reality.
